Thanks to Tony (Taff) Smith who sent an update from Yorkshire with some information on his most recent Jungmeister restoration. This is one of the original Hirth powered CASA 1.133 Jungmeisters which now ,like G-BUTX before it, sports a Warner Scarab engine. This is one very special Jungmeister. (For non-UK citizens, "Taff" is British slang for a person from the country of Wales)
Thought you might like to see my Jungmeister which is now finished and ready to fly, currently the paperwork has been submitted and once that weighs more than the MTOW of the aircraft it can fly!!
Although it does not have continuous history (last flew in 1950) and ended up in the Albacete auctions in the 60's it is genuine CASA and is registered as so, missing parts have been provided by BITZ GmbH who have made a superb job of a new adjustable seat, fuel tank and axles to enable Cleveland brakes and wheels to be fitted.
The covering is Ceconite 102, all "Z" stitched as original and the colour scheme is correct for the day it came out of the factory in RLM 63 green with the Condor Legion insignia which is really nice. (#101).
Originally it had a Hirth 6 cylinder in line engine fitted but I couldn't bring myself to fit an in line engine to a Jungmeister ( sorry Benoit :) ) so went for the Warner 185 conversion a'la Frank Price and Bevo Howard, you may remember you sold me the engine! It has an Ellison 4/5 carb., Brunton's streamline wires and is fitted with a starter motor and an on board Varley Lithium battery which is good for 20 starts. The cowls are hand made aluminium very similar to the Siemens Bramo version and attached in a similar manner.
I intend to enter it in the Vintage WAC on 19th August which is taking place in UK this year and maybe do a couple of airshows, it has a Smoking Aeroplanes smoke system which is incredible and will leave the tree huggers shaking in their boots!
This is my last big project and at the age of 76 this is my final year of flying down the runway inverted!
I also include some pictures of my SAAB Safir, ex Austrian Airforce (another Anders Anderson design) which has many similarities to the Jungmeister although thirty years apart in production dates!
