Did you know that currently +/- 720,000 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube EVERY DAY! It's no wonder there is always something interesting to find. Here are a few examples from the aviation community you might find interesting.

Beautifully flown Swiss APM Jungmann Aerobatics. The event was at the Lommis airfield in Northeast Switzerland.

LOM fuel injection.

LOM engines have multipoint sequential fuel injection that is considerably more complex than the RSA continuous injection system typically found on Lycoming and Continental engines. It has several unusual features:

  • The injector nozzles operate at +/- 90 PSI to provide very fine atomization of the fuel
  • The injection of fuel is timed to the camshaft rotation
  • Fuel mixture is automatically controlled up to 10,000 ft though internal pressure sensing aneroids
  • Automatic enrichment at start-up via an oil pressure sensor
In the first of these videos a cutaway version of the Avia 137A pump is shown in operation. In the second, Martin Baumann explains how the system works and shows a disassembled system.

Lead in aircraft fuel - what is it doing to you?

And finally this very well produced and entertaining video on why you should be careful when dealing with leaded fuel. Whatever you politics, do take a few minutes to watch this. I think you will be glad you did.

Note that calling aviation fuel "100 low lead" is a euphemism at best. It contains at least twice the tetraethyl lead of the leaded car fuel that was banned in the 1980s.
