We’re organizing a Bucker gathering at Blakesburg this year. We’ve had a lot of interest so far. It looks like 12-15 airplanes is a good estimate.
In the past, our group has conducted fun “fly outs”. Amana Colonies on Thursday the 29th and the Mt. Pleasant Tractor Show on Friday the 30th are planned. Both of these outings are within driving distance and the wives would also enjoy them.
There is a really nice restaurant downtown, Appanoose Rapids, (within walking distance from the Hotel Ottumwa), where we reserved a room that will hold up to 36 people for a 6:30PM Saturday night Bücker banquet. We ate there a few years ago and it was great.
There are a number of hotels in Ottumwa, here are a few of them:
Hampton Inn 641-814-8888, includes a breakfast bar & coin laundry, $144, $129 if reserved through booking.com
Days Inn 641-954-5122, includes continental breakfast, no coin laundry, $75
Quality Inn 641-682-8526, includes breakfast bar & coin laundry, $85
Hotel Ottumwa 641-682-8051, includes 'made to order' breakfast in the restaurant/bar downstairs & coin laundry, $75 per night if staying 5 nights, otherwise it is $85…I talked to the Manager Kay and she is holding a block of rooms under “Bucker airplane group”. We made reservations here and thought it would be really nice to have a group staying together, but you can stay wherever you like.
Hangars can be reserved at KOTM Ottumwa Regional Airport, Archangel Flying Service 641-954-9200.
Rental cars at the airport can be reserved from Hertz, Enterprise or a local company called Midwest Auto Sales 641-682-5700.
If you have any questions, please call me at 480-213-9096.
Hope to see you there, Jim White
