Updated engine documents
- Details
Larry's documents have become the "go to" source for maintaining these engines.
Inspired by Larry's work, I am in the process of writing a document on the LOM 332 engine found in quite a few Bückers throughout the community. Having operated the engine for 13 years now and fielded many, many phone calls concerning their operation and maintenance I think I have learned enough to put something in writing. - Stay tuned.
Rib Stitching
- Details
In rib lacing the rib cap-strips are wrapped in fabric tape and the covering fabric sewn to that tape. The stitches are much smaller and the reinforcing tape narrower.
There are several methods used to make the stitches one of which is known as "German two-needle" or "Focke-Wulf" stitching. After the fabric is shrunk a pencil line is drawn along the center of each underlying rib, then two lengths of thread are prepared each with its own curved needle. Alternating stitches are then made along the length of the pencil line first with one needle, then the other. This results in a neat, even stitch which can then be covered by a narrow (+/- 3cm) finishing tape.
(side view)
Another method used in Europe is the Swiss "Z' stitch in which a single needle is used to make a stitch across the rib starting from the same side and finishing with a knot on the opposide side each time. Between each stitch the thread remains on top of the fabric and crosses to the starting side, creating the distinctive "Z" appearance.

Don Meloche
- Details
Don's obituary contains much to be admired but this paragraph will resonate with Bücker owners:
In 1989, Don was appointed San Diego Superior Court Judge. A strong athlete, avid runner, a pilot of many years. He loved flying! He was known as 'the flying Judge.' As there was often a shortage of courtrooms, Don would just jump in his WWII Bucker Jungmann biplane and fly to the auxiliary court in Ramona.
I am sure the Bucker community will join me in extending sympathy and respect to Mike and family.Jungmann OE-APY Travels Westward

"I have a right lower wing for a CASA Jungmann, 2 horizontal stabilizers, 10-15 CASA ailerons, a bundle of flying wires, a damaged center section, and most of everything Firewall Forward for a Jungmann 180 conversion. Most of the CASA Jungmann stuff was overhauled and recovered in the 1950`s. One of the neatest things I have is a Homebuilt Jungmeister project built by the late great Jim Swick. "

Heine Prop colors - Update

The Heine propeller installed on the Bü131 Jungmann can be seen in early color photographs but its color seems to vary between black and chocolate brown. Does anyone know what the correct color is?

Historical Aircraft Services (Janusz Karasiewicz)
- Details
Larry Harmacinski sent some pictures of Janusz Karacsewicz that I had not seen before, so it seems like a good time to update this article originally from June 2022. Thank you Larry.
Historical Aircraft Services (Serwis Samolotow HistorycznychH or "SSH" in Polish) was a builder of late model T-131 Jungmann as well as components for various other European light aircraft.
From 1989 to 1995 a team of aviation specialists led by Janusz Karasiewicz built 4 Jungmann aircraft . The first of them flew in the summer of 1994. These aircraft were powered by Walter Minor 4 - III engines. In 1995, the Historical Aircraft Service company was formed which started serial production based on original plans of the Czech version of the aircraft designated Bücker T-131 PA.
The planes were manufactured to order. Not much was changed in relation to the original. The 105hp Hirth HM 504 engine was replaced with the Czech LOM M-332 AK engine. Until 2006, over 30 copies of this aircraft were built. In the early 2000s, designs of new versions of the Bu181 "Bestmann" were developed, one with an LOM engine and another with a Lycoming.
Sadly Janusz died in the crash of an FK "Comet" biplane in 2006 putting an end to SSH. The aircraft he produced are regularly seen at flyins around Europe, particularly in Germany and Austria.

Benoit Dierickx (who owns and competes in the T-133 Jungmeister shown above) found this movie showing some of the aircraft and the manufacturing activities. The quality is not great, but it is well worth watching.
Thanks Benoit.

Bücker Contacts
- Details
Way back in 2006 I made a Bücker Contacts page on this website where people who wished could list their email, phone number and any other details they chose to share. That page was looking decidedly ancient so I have made a more modern looking version with the same information as the old one.
You should be able to directly message a contact, view more details or download a vcard to your phone from the new page.
Only people who have registered for this website and who are currently logged in can see the contacts page. The link appears in the "User menu" to the left of the page. (If there is no user menu, you are not logged in.) Only people who have specifically asked to be included are listed.
If you would like to be included in the contact list, be removed from it, add a picture or update your contact information please email me.
Note that in addition to only being visible to registered, logged in users, this website employs email address obfuscation. What looks like an email address is actually a picture of an email address. This prevents search engines, robots or scammers from automatically harvesting addresses.

The Day a Luftwaffe Plane Landed at RAF Christchurch
- Details
On Wednesday April 30th 1941 Frenchmen Denys Boudard and Jean Hébert stole a Jungmann from a German occupied airfield and flew it to the South coast town of Christchurch in England.
The story of this adventure was recently told by Marc Heighway and published on the "New Forsest & Hampshire Wartime Association" website. It makes interesting reading. A request to publish it here was denied, but you can read the article as posted by clicking here, or on the picture above.
Update from Ed Luckett:
Jungmann 4477 was subsequently flown by the RAF Telecommunications Flying Unit (TFU) as DR626, it was struck off charge in Nov 1941. Amazingly it is shown on the RS models Czech website as one of the variants of their 1/72 scale Jungmann models: https://www.rsmodels.cz/p/218/92206-bucker-131-d-in-foreign-services
Larry Harmacinski found the article and shared it with John LaBarre who passed it on to me.
Bücker-FlyIn 2023 Rangsdorf
- Details
Friday June 23 – Sunday June 25
If weather does not cooperate we offer an alternative date from June 30 to July 2nd
The Bücker-Museum Rangsdorf e.V. and the property owner Terraplan Real Estate and Trust Company invite you to the 2023 FlyIn!
In 2000 and 2002, our association obtained permission to land on the former airfield. After 55 years, Bücker's aircraft had returned to Rangsdorf. The highlight so far, however, was the FlyIn in 2005. We organized a great aviation event in which dozens of Bücker aircraft from all over Europe took part. With the best possible weather in Rangsdorf, the FlyIn took place over two days and many, many spectators were enthusiastic.
The Nuremberg based company Terraplan, owner of the property, has big plans for the buildings of the former Bücker aircraft factory. The start for the so called BUC-36 project will be this year. The historic site will be saved from decay and looks forward to a new use.
This summer will be the last chance for us to fly to the former Rangsdorf airfield We will bring Bücker's aircraft home from all over Europe. The enthusiasm is huge, we can count on many participants.
46 Bücker planes have already signed up.

Spanish Aircraft Marking - Update
- Details
Joe Vasile responded with more information and pictures of the old original landing gear leg fabric from his Jungmann. The fabric did not have the colored triangles, but rather stenciled triangles with AAF 3580 written on the inside.
From the same batch of photographs is E3B-336 with the same triangle.
I’m still hoping someone can produce a good, clear picture of the marking.
Does anyone in the Bucker community know the purpose of the triangular marking on the CASA landing gear? I have seen this marking in several pictures and can not figure out what it means.
Thanks. Brian
